Important Questions to Ask a Massapequa Park, NY Basement Waterproofing Company
The thought of a basement flooding out and the related damages and exorbitant costs is every homeowner’s worst nightmare. Unfortunately, in Nassau County, basement flooding is an all-too-common occurrence, as the region is surrounded by water, experiences heavy rains on a semi-regular basis, and humidity levels tend to be high. There are several other factors that cause flooding in a basement, too, such as pipe leaks, water heater malfunctions, cesspool overflows, and drainage issues.
Thankfully, there’s a way that you can protect your Nassau County home – and your pocket – from the havoc that flooding can cause. How? By having a Massapequa Park, NY basement waterproofing contractors install a waterproofing system. You don’t want to hire just any basement waterproofing company, however; for a job this important, you want to make sure that you hire the most reliable contractor you can find. How can you do that? By scheduling consultations with several companies and asking some key questions.
When you consult with each basement waterproofing company, here are some key questions that you should consider asking.
How long have you been in business?
Hiring a well-established Massapequa Park, NY basement waterproofing contractor that has been serving the Nassau County community for several years is highly recommended. The longer a company has been in business, the more knowledge, hands-on experience, and expertise they will have; all factors that are crucial for developing and installing an effective waterproofing system.
Are you insured?
Ask each basement waterproofing company you consult with if they’re insured. A reputable Massapequa Park, NY basement waterproofing contractor will have both liability coverage, and if they employ a crew, workers’ compensation coverage. In the event that something unexpected happens, these policies will protect you from having to pay for any unforeseen – and exorbitant – costs. Ask to see proof of their insurance, and confirm that their policies are valid.
What solutions do you propose?
There are a lot of issues that can contribute to moisture in your Nassau County basement. In addition to installing a waterproofing system, you may have a plumbing problem, a drainage issue, or a leaky window that needs to be addressed. A certified and experienced Massapequa Park, NY basement waterproofing contractor will perform a thorough assessment to accurately pinpoint water intrusion points and will devise the most effective plan of action to effectively protect your home.
Do you offer a price estimate?
A credible Massapequa Park, NY basement waterproofing professional will always offer a free written price estimate. After performing a thorough assessment of your Nassau County property and devising a customized plan of action, they will provide you with a detailed estimate that will highlight all costs, and they’ll review the estimate with you. Be wary of a basement waterproofing company that only offers a verbal estimate, or that charges a fee for a written price quote.

Massapequa Park is a village and hamlet located within the town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 17,008 at the 2010 census. Areas south and east of the village borders are considered the hamlet of Massapequa Park because they are under the jurisdiction of the Town of Oyster Bay rather than the village. The hamlet shares the same zip code, fire department and school district as the village.
The village located on the South Shore of Long Island shares the early Native American history of Massapequa. Then, in the 19th century, families of German descent relocated from Brooklyn to what is now Massapequa Park, and the resulting community was known as Wurtenberg or Stadtwurtemburg. The main attraction and center of activity was the Woodcastle Hotel, a rooming house built in 1868 on Front Street next to the fire department as a summer resort. It was destroyed by fire in 1952 and replaced by houses.
In 1928 readers of The New York Times saw ads for Massapequa Park, a development built by a real estate firm owned by Michael J. Brady, Frank Cryan and Peter Colleran. The three Irish-Americans described their project as having a bit of Old Erin and the area between Sunrise Highway and Merrick Road still has its mostly Irish street names.
In 1931, Massapequa Park was incorporated as a village to ensure control of land use and other issues. Several dozen kit houses from Sears Roebuck were built in two different areas of the Village. These include some of the largest model kit houses offered by Sears.
