As your biggest asset, you want to make sure that your home is well-protected. In Nassau County, where water damage is a common occurrence, that means waterproofing basement walls should be a top priority. Before you start researching and scheduling appointments with Roslyn Estates, NY basement waterproofing contractors, however, you might be wondering about the benefits of waterproofing basement walls. To discover some of the top advantages, keep on reading.
Water Damage Prevention
Without a doubt, water damage prevention is the biggest benefit of Roslyn Estates, NY basement waterproofing. In Nassau County, flooding and moisture damage are common issues that homeowners face. The region is surrounded by water, and storm surges aren’t unusual; neither are heavy, wind-swept rains and high humidity levels. There are other factors that cause flooding and water damage, too, such as overflowing cesspools, drainage issues, malfunctioning water heaters, and pipe bursts. Hiring a contractor that specializes in waterproofing basement walls will prevent the risk of flooding and moisture damage.
A lot of Nassau County homeowners think that waterproofing basement walls is an unnecessary expense; on the contrary, however, it can actually translate to significant savings. Water might be a vital element, but it can be a highly destructive force. All it takes is a small leak to cause widespread damage that can not only destroy your personal possessions, but that can compromise the structural integrity of your entire house. The cost of repairs can be astronomical, and the financial losses can be significant. Hiring a Roslyn Estates, NY basement waterproofing contractor will cost you a lot less than water damage mitigation.
A Healthier Environment
Moisture can damage more than your Nassau County home and your possessions; it can also damage your health. Flooding or even a minor leak can turn your basement into a hotbed of dangerous pathogens, such as mold and mildew spores, and various types of bacteria. Water can welcome pests that like moist environments, too; silverfish, centipedes, earwigs, ants, mosquitos, termites, and cockroaches, for example. In addition to being unsettling, the presence of these pests can be a health hazard, as they can harbor harmful pathogens. To ensure your Nassau County home remains a healthy environment, waterproofing basement walls is definitely worth your while.
Peace of Mind
Knowing that your Nassau County home is protected from flooding and the extensive damage that moisture can cause, coupled with the substantial cost savings, and the fact that you and your loved ones will be living in a healthier environment; all of these factors combined mean that Roslyn Estates, NY basement waterproofing will ensure your peace of mind. Roslyn Estates is a village in the Town of North Hempstead in Nassau County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. It is considered part of the Greater Roslyn area, which is anchored by the Incorporated Village of Roslyn. The population was 1,251 at the 2010 census.
Roslyn Estates was first developed in the early 20th Century (circa 1908) by Dean Alvord, who also developed Prospect Park South in Brooklyn and Belle Terre in Port Jefferson. It was nicknamed ‘The Eden of Long Island’ when originally developed, due to the community’s design and setting.
In 1931, residents decided to try incorporating Roslyn Estates as a village, due to the fact that the original deed restrictions were set to expire around that time. Their efforts to incorporate were successful, and the Village of Roslyn Estates was incorporated on June 8, 1931.
In 1974, Mayor Robert D. Zucker attempted to have the boundaries of the Manhasset Park District redrawn to include the village after the district added an additional 260 parking spaces to the commuter parking fields at the Manhasset Long Island Rail Road station. Zucker stated that many Roslyn Estates residents preferred the Manhasset station over the closer Roslyn station due to the fact that service to/from Pennsylvania Station on the Port Washington Branch is direct, whereas a change at Jamaica is required on the Oyster Bay Branch. By having the district boundaries redrawn to include the village, Roslyn Estates residents would have the ability to be guaranteed a parking space at the Manhasset station for commuting to/from Manhattan. Officials from both North Hempstead and the Manhasset Park District, as well as Manhasset residents lamented the idea, given that Roslyn Estates is not part of the Greater Manhasset area, and felt that the needs of Greater Manhasset should be paramount for the Manhasset Park District. The proposal was ultimately denied.
