Signs You Need to Contact a Bellmore, NY Foundation Crack Repair Specialist ASAP

Your home is one of your biggest assets. It’s so much more than a financial investment; it’s your shelter from storms, the place where you rest your head, and the space where milestone events take place and lifelong memories are made. Yes, your home truly is your castle, and in order to ensure that it stands strong for years to come, the foundation it stands on has to be strong. Unfortunately, however, foundations can weaken, deteriorate, and sustain damages, and when that happens, the structural integrity of your Nassau County house can become compromised.

Settling, soil compaction, plumbing leaks, inadequate drainage, and poor installation; these are just some of the factors that can contribute to foundation deterioration. In order to ensure that your house continues to stand strong, being aware of the signs of foundation trouble is imperative. Pay attention to your New York home, and if you notice any of the following signs, scheduling an appointment with a contractor that specializes in foundation repair near you is highly recommended.

Cracks in the Foundation

The most obvious sign of foundation damage is, you guessed it – cracks in the foundation. Examine the foundation of your Nassau County home. If you see any visible cracks, something is certainly amiss. If the weather has been excessively damp or dry for a prolonged period of time, the soil can change, and those changes can impact your home’s foundation. Tree roots can push through any cracks in the foundation and widen them or even shift the structure. Poor drainage and ground settling can negatively impact a foundation, too. No matter the cause, if you notice any cracks in the foundation that your home sits on, contact a Bellmore, NY foundation crack repair specialist should definitely be a priority.

Foundation Upheaval

When a slab foundation moves upward, it’s a phenomenon known as “foundation upheaval”. It can happen when the ground shifts, and it can also occur as a result of poor construction. Typically, the upheaval affects the perimeter of the foundation, but it can affect the interior of the structure, too. Foundation upheaval is a major problem that needs to be addressed by a Bellmore, NY foundation crack repair specialist right away.

Cracks in the Interior Walls

While it’s true that there are several reasons why cracks can form in drywall, plaster, and even wood paneling, such as high humidity levels and water damage; cracks in interior walls can also be a sign that your foundation is in trouble. As the ground settles, the foundation can shift and when that happens, cracks can develop on the interior walls. If you see any cracks popping up in the interior walls of your Nassau County home, a call to a Bellmore, NY foundation crack repair contractor is definitely warranted.

Cracks in the Exterior Walls

Though cracking drywall can be a sign of a variety of issues with a house, cracks in the exterior walls are pretty much guaranteed to be a sign of foundation issues. As the soil shifts and your Nassau County home adjusts to that shifting, the exterior walls can crack. If your house features brickwork, the cracks can appear long and horizontal, or they can look like stair steps. Vertical cracks that appear to be getting wider can be an indication that the walls are rotating as a result of damage or shifting to the foundation. No matter what your exterior walls are made of, if they’re cracking, you’re going to want to get in touch with a contractor that specializes in foundation repair near you as soon as possible.

Sticking Windows and Doors

Sticking doors and windows can be the result of high humidity levels, as wood can expand when it’s exposed to moisture, and when that happens, the windows and doors can swell and stick. However, if humidity hasn’t been a problem, yet your Nassau County home’s doors and windows are sticking, foundation issues could be to blame. When the ground that surrounds the foundation moves, the foundation shifts along with it, and the frames that surround the doors and windows can become unbalanced. When that happens, the doors and windows won’t function properly.

Cracks Around the Windows and Doors

As the ground shifts and the foundation moves with it, not only will the door and window frames in your house become unbalanced, but they can also crack. Look at the frames that surround your windows and doors. If you see any cracks in them, you should start researching “foundation repair near me” as soon as possible.

Patio Problems

A foundation supports more than just your Nassau County home; if you have a patio, it supports that, too. As such, if there are problems with the foundation, your patio may suffer. If it seems like this exterior structure is pulling away from your house, you need to be concerned and should get in touch with a Bellmore, NY foundation crack repair company.

Sinking

If the floors in your New York house seem as if they are sinking inward, you need to put in an emergency call to a reputable contractor that specializes in foundation repair near you. You may feel the sinking under your feet, you might see it when you look at the floors, or the furniture may sit unevenly. Sinking is a sign of serious foundation damage, and it needs to be addressed right away.

Moisture Intrusion

Moisture intrusion in your basement can be a sign of foundation damage, too. If the structure wasn’t installed properly, if poor-quality materials were used, or if the ground is naturally shifting and the house is settling, the walls of the foundation can crack. Moisture in the soil that surrounds the exterior walls can then seep through the cracks in the foundation. When this happens, the humidity levels in your basement (and in your entire Nassau County home – can increase), and in more extreme situations, the moisture that seeps through the cracks can result in flooding. Moisture intrusion can lead to other issues, too, such as mold growth and structural damage.

Some information about Bellmore, NY

Bellmore is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population according to the 2010 census was 16,218. Bellmore is located on the south shore of Long Island 5 miles from Jones Beach State Park, approximately 27 miles (43 km) east of Manhattan, and 10 miles (16 km) east of the Nassau-Queens Line.

In 1643, Bellmore was a farming and fishing town known then as ‘Little Neck and ‘New Bridge’. Bellmore was settled primarily by Englishmen who crossed Long Island Sound from Connecticut in the middle of the seventeenth century. Preston Bowman purchased a 214-acre (0.9 km2) farm in what is now North Bellmore in 1655. Further south, near the bay, John Smith deeded 100 acres (0.4 km2) to his son, Jeremiah in 1676. John Bedell married Sarah Southard and moved into their new home on Merrick Road in about 1689. Two communities grew out of these beginnings. Smithville (later Smithville South) was named for the many Smith families who lived in the area, and New Bridge, named for the bridge that joined the peninsulas south of Merrick Road.

When the railroad was built through the area in 1867 they arbitrarily named their station Bellmore. Development followed as both communities grew towards the railroad and adopted the name Bellmore. By 1920, the Bellmores had a population of 3000 as well as stores along Bedford Avenue. The town was officially named Bellmore in 1900, when the post office was established.

The Bellmore Memorial Library, was founded in 1948. It was started in an old schoolhouse. This library has lasted since 1948 until present, keeping it as the main library of Bellmore, New York.
